Three teenagers died and two others were injured Wednesday about 1:20 a.m. when their sports utility vehicle left State Highway 427 and struck a tree.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Ronnie Carter said the accident occurred about a mile south of Edinburg in Leake County.
Carter identified the victims as Ryan Tally, 17, of Tupelo and Matthew S. Holdiness, 17, and Casey Ellington, 16, both of Kosciusko.
Holdiness was the driver of the 2000 Isuzu Rodeo, Carter said. He said two other teenagers, Kyle C. Young and Lucas King, both 17 and from Kosciusko, were airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where their conditions were not immediately made public.
