Graveside services for Kennith Warren "Ken" Winborn will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Joey Shelton officiating. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Winborn, 58, of Hattiesburg, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in Hattiesburg.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Graveside services for William Dewey "Bill" Lockhart will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery near Santa Nella, California.
Mr. Lockhart, 83, of Modesto, Calif., formerly of Meridian, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, in his home.
He was born in Meridian on March 10, 1921 to Dewy and Telsie Lockhart. In 1939 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, and was assigned to the Tule Lake Camp in California. At the onset of World War II, Mr. Lockhart joined the Army Air Corps. He was eventually commissioned a 2nd Lt. and assigned to the Eighth Air Force as a bombardier aboard a B-17. While flying on his 14th mission, he was severely injured when his plane was shot down over Germany. He spent nearly two years as a prisoner of war, primarily in the Stalag Luft III prison camp.
After the war, he settled in Modesto, where he raised his children, worked and eventually retired from Turlock Refrigeration in 1983. For many years after his retirement he enjoyed motor home traveling with his wife, making many friends all across the country. He remained active in a number of retired military organizations, and continued his lifelong interest in fitness, swimming and cycling regularly and recreating daily as a long-time member of the Sportsmen of Stanislaus Club.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Lockhart; sons, Byron Lockhart and his wife, Barbara, of Vacaville, and Paul Lockhart of Modesto; a daughter, Beverly Lockhart of San Diego; step-children, Brian and Peggy Velthoen, Barry and Robin Velthoen and Bruce Velthoen, all of Modesto and Anne and Allen Keathley of Sonora; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Bennideen Sanders; a brother, Leo Lockhart and his wife, Doris, of Meridian and a sister and brother-in-law, Van and Red Thibodeaux, of San Diego and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, William Lockhart.
Arrangements were incomplete at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home for Alvin Patton, 55, of Meridian, who died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in his home.
Arrangements were incomplete at Barham Funeral Home for Geneva Strickland, 87, of Decatur, who died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in her home.
Arrangements were incomplete at Stephens Funeral Home for Sandra Coats, 54, of Meridian, who died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Guardian Angel Hospice in Marion.
