WASHINGTON Federal funding totaling almost $1 million has been approved for water improvements at Wayne County's Hiwannee Water Association, U.S. Sens. Trent Lott and Thad Cochran announced Monday.
The federal funding package consists of a $317,355 loan and a grant totaling $482,645. The funds will be used to construct a well and a standpipe and to provide for distribution upgrades. The improvements are to improve the hydraulics of the system and to add approximately 40 new users who currently do not have a dependable supply of water.
The funds will be administered via the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Office of Rural Development.
