Police file charges in shooting

Meridian police filed charges of aggravated domestic violence Friday against Joe Thornton, 51, of 2119 25th Ave., after his wife became the victim in a shooting.
Detective Dean Harper of the Meridian Police Department said he did not know Mrs. Thornton's condition Friday. The shooting happened about 6 p.m. Thursday. Police responded to a shooting call at the residence.
Harper said Thornton turned himself into police after the shooting at the front desk of the Meridian Police Department.
Also on Thursday, at about 10 p.m., Harper said police responded to a shooting in the 2600 block of Ninth Street.
Harper said a man was shot in the back and in the leg by two other, masked men. Harper did not know the condition of the victim Friday; he would not identify the victim.
