A man remained in custody Thursday at the Meridian Police Department after he confessed to a shooting on 25th Avenue.
The shooting happened about 6 p.m. Thursday in the 2100 block of 25th Avenue. The suspect surrendered to authorities about 7 p.m.
Detective Dean Harper, a spokesman for the MPD, said the suspect allegedly shot a woman once in the chest. Harper said he will be released from custody if the victim does not press charges within 48 hours.
Harper said he is not aware of any relationship between the two or why the shooting took place.
The victim was taken to a local hospital. Her condition was unknown at press time. Harper did not release the man's name.
