In a day when only five golfers were able to shoot below par, Ed Brown blistered the course at Northwood Country Clug to take a two-stroke lead in the Mississippi Golf Association Mid Amateur Championship.
Brown finished the day with a round of 66 to lead the field after the first of three days of competition.
The second round of competition will begin at 8 a.m. with the high scores starting from the first tee with the other golfers starting in 10 minutes intervals behind them.
The leaders are scheduled to tee off at 10:40 p.m. The tournament will conclude with a round on Sunday.
In the leader group will be Joey Landrum of Laurel who also had a nice day with a three-under 68.
Luke Abney, Ricky Sims and Judge Little also finished with rounds under par. All three of the golfers finished at one-under with a first round score of 70.
According to Coleman, the first round of the tournament was a success.

tournament which is for golfers 25 or older.
Seven golfers, including the current MGA player of the year Michael Stringer, finished the day at even par and are in striking distance.
