U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents from Jackson picked up 1,897 pounds of marijuana in Meridian on Monday.
The marijuana was found in an 18-wheeler during a traffic stop at about 5:20 p.m. Sunday by Meridian police.
The driver of the truck, Juan Salinas, 39, of Mission, Texas was traveling east when he was stopped at mile marker 151 on Interstate 20 for following too closely.
With consent to search the truck, police found 28 large packages of marijuana mixed in with a shipment of broccoli.
Salinas was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, but no bond was set because U.S. Customs will prosecute the case, according to Maj. Steve Spears of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, who is also commander of the East Mississippi Drug Task Force.
Salinas was traveling from Rio Grande City, Texas en route to New York, task force agents said. The estimated value of the marijuana was at least $1 million.
