Retired nursing instructor
Services for Glenda Couch will be held today at 11 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Jacob officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Couch, 66, of Meridian, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, in her home. She attended Grace Church in Collinsville. She was the retired director of nursing at Matty Hersee Hospital and later retired as a nursing instructor at Meridian Community College.
Survivors include her daughter, Teena Couch and her fianc, Kevin Gray, of Brandon; sons, Terry Couch of Meridian, Mike Couch and his wife, Tammy, of Collinsville and Calvin Couch and his wife, Jennifer, of Clinton; her mother, Lorine Bell of Ft. Payne, Ala.; sisters, Rachel Newsome of Sylvania, Ala., Rhonda Edwards of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers, Clinton Bell of Ft. Payne, Jimmy Bell of Homer, Ga. and Danny Bell, of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Christi Couch, Jennifer Couch, Curtis Couch, Ryan Couch, Dereck Couch and his wife, Jennifer, Scott Couch, Jonathan Couch and Jarred Couch; great-grandchildren, Canaan Hutton and Ryanna Couch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Thomas Couch, father, Johnnie T. Bell and a brother, Thesmer Bell.
Memorials may be made to Meridian Community College Nursing Program.
Visitation will be today 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
SEBASTOPOL Services for Maudine Ficklin will be held today at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Patrick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Milling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Ficklin, 64, of Newton, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
Survivors include her son, James Morales of Newton; a grandson, a sister, Mary Etta Willis of Choctaw and a brother, Hubert Jefferson of Conehatta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Thaddeus Rabon and Timothy Chris Ficklin.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. on Monday at 486 Choctaw in Conehatta.
SEBASTOPOL Services for Pete Moudy will be held today at 2 p.m. at Gilmer's Chapel Church of God with the Rev. Jerry Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Milling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Moudy, 84, of Conehatta, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at the V.A. Medical Center in Jackson. He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Dot Moudy of Conehatta; a son, David Allen Mowdy of Conehatta; grandchildren, Katilyn Mowdy and Marcus Mowdy, both of Conehatta; sisters, Annie Bell George of Big Point, Susie King of Moss Point, Lavenia Shivers of Georgia, Janie Kay Hardy of Florida and Mary Wolverton of Moss Point; a brother, Frank Mowdy of Lucedale and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Alex Shepard, Jason French, Robby Mowdy, Dale Mowdy, Michael Mowdy and Robert Thrash.

Memorial services for Donald Kahrs will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Northcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Malcolm Lewis officiating.
Mr. Kahrs, 71, of Meridian, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, in his home. He was a member of Northcrest Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps League and was employed by Bell Helicopter in Iran in 1976 just prior to the revolution. He and his wife escaped and had to leave all of their possessions behind. He will be remembered as a man who spent much of his life serving his country.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Kahrs of Meridian; his mother, Naomi Kahrs of Mapleton, Iowa and a brother, Robert Kahrs of Bloomington, Minn.
Visitation will be Friday 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Retired
Services for James Smiley will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at New Bethlehem Methodist Church in DeKalb with the Rev. John Clark Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Jerusalem Cemetery in DeKalb. Clark's Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smiley, 65, of DeKalb, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
Survivors include his sons, Elder Jerry Grady and his wife, Lorena, James Grady and his wife, Marilyn, Michael Grady and Ricky Benamon, all of DeKalb; daughters, Rosa McDonald of Porterville and Janet Green of DeKalb; sisters, Etter Overstreet, Pratty Brown, Carrie Shine, Della McDonald and Bertha Smith, all of Philadelphia and Ella Smith of Hattiesburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Visitation will be Thursday 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at the church.
Poultry industry construction employee
PHILADELPHIA Memorial services for Dennis Wade Shaw will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Church of God in Union with the Rev. Frank McGaugh officiating. John E. Stephens Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Shaw, 32, of Pulaski, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, in Neshoba County.
Survivors include his mother, Linda Strommen and step-father, Matt, of Union; brothers, Stacey Lee Shaw of Homewood and Scottie Dorman of Philadelphia.

Services for Thomas J. Scarbrough will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Clark's Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clovis Wright officiating. Burial will be in Barker Cemetery in Marion.
Mr. Scarbrough, 72, of Meridian, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at Heartfelt Hospice.
Survivors include his sons, Douglas Alford, Gary Alford and his wife, Tammy, of Richmond, Va., and Jeffrey Alford and his wife, Lashunda, of Meridian; his daughters Phyllis Alford and Ke'Ke Scarbrough, both of Meridian; sisters, Juanita Cole, Mary Alice King and her husband, Zeno, and Pearl Love of San Diego, Calif.; brothers, John Scarbrough and his wife, Bess, of Palo Alto, Calif., James Scarbrough of Meridian, Earl Scarbrough and his wife, Lucy, of San Francisco; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Visitation will be Friday 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
