Longtime Meridian businessman Jack Stack was remembered today as a man staunchly devoted to helping young people and an early pioneer in the Mississippi Republican Party.
Stack, 86, died Tuesday at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center after collapsing in his garage. His wife of 64 years, Frances Margaret Stack, said doctors were unable to save her husband.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Stephens Funeral Home.
Fellow businessman Gil Carmichael remembered Stack as an early pioneer in the Republican Party. Carmichael said Stack was "very generous with his money" and helped candidates jumpstart campaigns.
Others pointed to Stack's longtime support of the Boy Scouts of America praising him for his commitment to helping youth in the community.
Evans, who first met Stack in the late 1960s, said Stack was especially instrumental in helping remodel Camp Binachi, raising necessary money and even personally contributing.
