Four people died and two others were sent to the hospital Sunday night in a traffic accident on Highway 19 North in Neshoba County, a spokesman for the Mississippi Highway Patrol said today.
Sgt. Ronnie Carter said the accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, two miles north of the House community.
Carter said the four people who died were Ruth H. Gordon, 51, of Meridian; Ella McCoy, age unavailable, of Meridian; Kevin B. Hendon, 41, of Collinsville; and Sharon Carey, age and home unavailable.
Carter said that Annie Heidelberg, 61, of Meridian, and Joseph Gordon, 47, of Meridian, were transported to Rush Foundation Hospital. Their conditions were unavailable today.
Details about the accident remained sketchy today. Carter said a 2004 Jeep, driven by Gordon, was headed north on Highway 19. A 1996 Chevrolet, driven by Hendon, was headed south on Highway 19.
Carter said one of the vehicles apparently was traveling in the wrong lane; he said the accident remains under investigation.
