The Meridian Community College Eagle golf team added three players to its roster for the 2005 season that head coach Lou Hart hopes will make a big difference for the MCC Eagles.
Shane Parker of West Lauderdale High School, Daniel Kania of Clarke Prep (Ala.), and Jordy Hayden of Sumter Academy all signed national letters of intent to play golf next season for MCC at the Damon Fitness Center on Monday afternoon.
All three players have had decorated high school careers and Hart hopes that success will carry over into next year for the MCC golf program, while the main ingredient may be team chemistry.
Parker decided to stay close to home to play his college golf and was among the top golfers in the state of Mississippi this past season. Parker has won several championships dating back to his freshman season at West Lauderdale.
As a freshman, Parker captured a medalist title in the Carthage tournament and from that point on winning has been routine. His sophomore season, Parker won two medalists titles and captured another pair of medalists in his junior season as a member of the Knight golf team.
In his final year at West Lauderdale, Parker was a medalist at the Clarkdale Invitational and won the medalist honor at the Division 5-3A tournament at Forest. Parker then led his team to the Class 3A State Championship at Forest one week after his win at the same course for the divisional championship.
Kanila come to MCC from Clarke Prep and brings a very impressive resume. Kanila was named most valuable player on his team at Clarke Prep his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. The highlight of the season for Kanila was a fifth-place finish in the State Academy Championship at Greenville, Ala.
Kanila was named to the All-State Team this past season and Hart will be looking for great things from her newest addition.
The final signee for the MCC Eagles, Jordy Hayden, comes to the program from Sumter Academy in York, Ala. Hayden won the individual medalist honor in the AISA State Tournament his senior season and helped his team to a third place finish in the tournament.
Hayden has captured individual medalists honors in 10 tournaments in high school over the past three seasons at Sumter Academy. Eight of his medalist wins came in his senior season.
