Fall and Winter season wraps up

The Fall and Winter season is now in the books with the completion of the final roll of the season in the Queen City league last Thursday. Congratulations to the Shi-Nell Industries team who took home the league championship by easily outdistancing the other seven teams involved in the roll off. By the way, I need to apologize to the team The Champs. Last week, I stated that they've won the Ball &Chain league the last two years in a row. In fact, this was their third straight championship in that league, and I am happy to set the record straight.
Just to put a wrap on the season, we had nearly 200 700-series bowled in the 36-week season. There were 16 300s in league and city tournament play by local bowlers, led by Tim Van Doren and Tyrone McAlpine, who each had three perfect games. Tim also rolled a fourth 300 in another tournament during the season. Jim Broderick, Jr. and Mike Cothern each cranked out two. Other guys reaching the magic number included Robert Brown, Albert Edmonds, Tim Edmonds, Bill Fike and Barry Woods. We also had two 299s (Robby Phillips and Tim Van Doren), one 298 (Robby Relinski) and a 296 (Keith Fike). Twelve guys earned a total of 13 11-in-a-row awards with Robert Brown claiming two of them. Also included in that category are Mel Cacapit, Andrew Clayton, Mike Cothern, Steve Eastman, Albert Edmonds, Jeff Gaines, K.J. Humphries, John Lott, Marty McMullen and Robby Relinski.
I don't have the numbers report for the ladies, but they also had a very successful season. Congratulations to all our bowlers on a very fine season, and we look forward to seeing you back in 2004-2005.
With the conclusion of the Fall and Winter season, the summer schedule is now underway. Openings for teams and individuals are still available in all leagues through the rest of the week. It's not too late to join in and take part, so contact Dixie Bowl Lanes for more information.
I know all of you will join me in wishing Tim Van Doren and his wife Samantha the best of luck as they leave Meridian soon and begin a new life in Birmingham. Many of us have watched Tim come up through the junior ranks and evolve not only into a superb bowlers but a fine young man as well. We will miss them both and hope they remember we are only a few hours away.
Both the men's and ladies' state tournaments will be concluding in the next two weekends. It will be several weeks before we get a full report on the results, so as soon as I get them I will pass them along to you.
