Excellence in education

Leslie Rush of Meridian was recently presented with the Elise Pruitt Clinical Achievement Award for excelling in the clinical area and for a positive attitude demonstrating respect for patients and clinical staff at the University of West Alabama Ira D. Pruitt Division of Nursing graduation.
Graduates from this area also included: Jessica Denise Feeley, Dana Sherrill Montone, Leslie Nicole Rush and Kim Wright, all of Meridian; Jay Christopher Clark of Macon; Geneva Westerfield of Preston; Stephanie Lee Hutchinson of DeKalb; Melissa Hopson and Shannon Rhea Williams, both of Lauderdale; and Latonya Crowel of Rose Hill.
Julie Christine Skipper of Meridian recently graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School. She received a bachelor's degree from Millsaps College and graduated from Lamar School.
At Vanderbilt, she was recognized at graduation for being the recipient of the K. Harlan Dodson Moot Court Staff Award. She will live in Jackson, where she will be an associate with the law firm of Wells, Marble and Hurst.
Skipper is the daughter of Ed and Phyllis Skipper of Meridian.
A total of 425 students were recently awarded degrees during Delta State University's spring commencement exercises at Walter Sillers Coliseum on the campus.
Students from this area are Christina Golden of Collinsville, who received a bachelor's degree in nursing, and William Ross Davis of Lauderdale, who received a bachelor's degree in flight operations.
Members of the Ac'cents, the show choir at East Central Community College in Decatur, have been announced for the 2004-2005 school year.
Sopranos are: Victoria Loper of Newton County High School, Dee Carpenter of Louisville and Kelly Bankston of Sebastopol.
Singing alto are: Amy Kennedy and Mollie Cieglo, both of Forest, and Felicia Chapman of Newton County.
Tenors are: Sam McDill and Eddie Smith, both of Newton County, and Cassidy Crenshaw of Neshoba Central.
Singing bass are: Luke Howell and Anthony Engram of Newton County and Grant Comans of Sebastopol.
Sound technicians are Zach Logan of Newton and Bryon Whitley of Philadelphia.
More than 40 students auditioned for the nine spots available in next year's group.
