Jack Middleton looks forward to June ever year.
And this year, the commissioner of the State Games of Mississippi watersport events has something new to look forward to. In addition to wakeboarding, water skiing and kneeboarding barefooting has been added to this year's State Games.
The events will take place June 19 at Dream Lake. Regular registration costs $30, and entries must be postmarked by June 11.
Anyone interested can also register the day of the event for an extra $15.
Middleton said the event brings out watersportsmen of all levels of experience, from beginners to veterans. Middleton also said the low-pressure atmosphere makes for an ideal time to try watersports for the first time.
Competitors don't even need their own equipment, according to Middleton.
Aside from lack of equipment, Middleton said the most common reason for staying out of watersports and the most misplaced reason is fear.
Spectators can enjoy the day-long competition, which begins at 10 a.m., from underneath a covered area at the lake.
