The 2004 State Games of Mississippi junior tennis competition will take place June 25-27 at Northeast Park.
The tournament, which will be split into five age divisions, will be played on 10 courts. The first round will begin at 1 p.m. on June 25.
To be eligible, participants must be 18 or younger. Tennis players will be separated by categories age 10 and under, age 11-12, age 13-14, age 15-16, and age 17-18. Anyone older than 18 must compete in the adult tennis competition.
Entrants may send their entry fees and forms to the State Games office through the June 22 deadline. Singles competition requires a $35 fee, and doubles teams must pay $46 per team. Entries should be sent together.
Call-in entries are also accepted at 601-483-3526 and 601-934-1326.
The State Games office advises that participants should be prepared to play two matches per day in each event.
The tournament is not a sanctioned event, which it has been for the past several years.
About 90 youths participated in last year's junior tennis tournament, and McPhail said while the USTA has not sanctioned the event, she does not expect a drastic change in turnout.
