Snowden Charles Wright, a senior at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., recently was named the Ivy Film Festival's 2004 Screenplay Contest winner for his feature length script entry "The Hurricane Party."
The festival was inaugurated at Brown University in December 2001. It provides a venue for undergraduates of the eight Ivy League colleges and universities to market their film work among industry experts and people who love and support film.
The screenplay competition was added in April 2003 and was an international film section. Wright's entry, "Pay the Queen," was a semi-finalist last year garnering the attention of film festivals worldwide.
The 2004 competition was open to undergraduates from throughout the United States, thus Wright's winning entry was recognized as the best screenplay submitted in the nation.
Due to the Ivy Film Festival's efforts to be all-inclusive in encouraging the creative efforts of undergraduate filmmakers, sponsors such as The Forbes Foundation, Paramount Pictures, Variety, The Wall Street Journal and Vanity Fair have come on board as contributing sponsors.
Celebrity judges including directors, producers, writers, agents and actors judge the entries on the criteria of story, dialogue and character. Among Hollywood notables who have served as judges and guest lecturers at the festival are Adrien Brody, Wes Craven, Brett Ratner, Tim Robbins and Julia Stiles.
Under the supervision of Genesis Literary Agency and the Ivy Film Festival staff, Wright's 2004 winning entry was sent to Beverly Hills' agents and management companies, and he has been contacted to submit additional works in order for them to be placed in a stable of talent for the future of the film industry.
Wright will graduate from Dartmouth College in June with a bachelor's degree in journalism and creative writing. Upon graduation, he will return to New York City to work at Hamptons magazine.
Wright also has been published in Gotham magazine.
The son of Charles and Becky Wright, Snowden Wright graduated first in the class of 2000 at Lamar School. A complete list of 2004 Ivy Film Festival winners can be found at www.ivyfilmfestival.com
