SCOOBA Tommy Davis, president of East Mississippi Community College, announced his retirement earlier this week at a meeting of the college's board of trustees.
Davis has headed EMCC since 1990. During his tenure, EMCC has become the state's fastest-growing community college and one of the fastest-growing in the nation. Davis, 70, has served a total of 49 years in the field of education.
His retirement is effective June 30.
Linda Jackson, chairman of the EMCC board, said a search committee will begin accepting applications for a replacement soon. The position will be advertised, and qualified candidates are invited to apply.
