Clark looks to reinvigorate' local Democratic Party

In 1976, Melba B. Clark made her first visit to New York City for the Democratic Party's national convention.
In July, more than 28 years later, Clark will return to the convention for a second time which this year will be in Boston. Clark was chosen last week as one of six Democratic delegates from Mississippi's 3rd Congressional District to attend.
Clark said she hopes to learn more about the expected Democratic presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. John Kerry, and help build momentum to "reinvigorate the local Democratic party."
Clark and Ward 2 Councilman Mary Perry were also two of 153rd Congressional District Democratic delegates selected to serve on the state Democratic Party Executive Committee.
The Democratic Party will hold its state convention in Jackson on May 29.
Clark was elected chairman of the Lauderdale County Democratic Executive Committee in March. Although involved in the party since 1976, she decided she wanted to take a more progressive role.
Kathy Price, who moved to Meridian three years ago from Virginia, is also trying to help round up support of the local Democratic party. Price was elected secretary of the Lauderdale County Democratic Executive Committee in March.
