HONORING A FALLEN MARINE Willie Schanrock said plans have been finalized to dedicate a monument to Chris Mabry Tuesday, at 3:30 p.m., at the Lauderdale County Courthouse. Mabry was a 19-year-old U.S. Marine and a resident of southwest Lauderdale County. He was killed in action in Iraq this month. The monument was donated by Burton-Coley Monument Co. of Meridian and a tree donated by The Memory Tree Foundation also will be planted in Mabry's honor at the courthouse. Schanrock, pictured, manager of T.J.'s Menswear in downtown Meridian, began organizing a memorial to Mabry last week. He first asked the city for permission to put the memorial in Dumont Plaza. "They would not let us do that. Why, I don't know," Schanrock said. Bonita Lakes and Highland Park also were considered before county officials approved placing the memorial at the courthouse.
