Fired teachers want hearings

Five Lauderdale County teachers and one Meridian teacher have requested hearings to determine if they were rightfully dismissed from their jobs.
Both the Meridian and the Lauderdale County school boards held specially called meetings Friday to set times for the hearings. The teachers' names were not released.
Lauderdale Superintendent David Little and Meridian Superintendent Sylvia Autry said they gave the teachers non-renewal letters based on performance not possible budget shortfalls.
School board attorney John Compton said he will recommend a hearing officer to preside. The hearings will be held between May 11 and May 19.
