Newton Academy sweeps playoffs

Tommy Harthcock scattered three hits and allowed no earned runs for Newton County Academy on Thursday in NCA's 5-2 win over University Christian School.
Harthcock improved his record to 8-1 and also hit two singles for NCA, which is now 20-5.
Morgan Craven had a triple and a single for Newton County Academy, and Ben Thames added two singles.
Newton County Academy will play host to Heidelberg Academy on Tuesday in the second round of the MPSA Class Playoffs.

Meridian CC 5-1
Wallace-Hanceville 3-2
Courtney Gray went 2-for-3 with a triple to lead Meridian Community College to a 5-3 win over Wallace Hanceville before losing the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday
Jessica Lawrence went 2-for-4 with a double in the first game, and Kirby Shelby also had a double.
Stephanie Choo improved to 9-16, scattering nine hits in the win.
In the second game, the Lady Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the second inning. Meridian scored its only run in the sixth inning before Wallace-Hanceville held on for the win.
Gray, Shelby and Katie Barnett accounted for the Lady Eagles' only hits in the second game.
Meridian Community College is now 14-27 and will travel to Decatur on Saturday to face East Central Community College in an MACJC Central Division doubleheader.
