CHOCTAW West Lauderdale used a well-balanced attack to win the Choctaw Central Invitational Golf Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club.
With the 10,000 or so azaleas still in bloom, the course at times reminded one of The Masters in Augusta, Ga., and the Knights were the team that mastered the Azaleas Course with a total of 327. Union came in second with a 336.
Completing the field were Kosciusko at 353, Newton County at 358, and Carthage at 399. Choctaw Central had no team score, as only three of the required four golfers turned in scores.
Jarred Moulds led the Knights with a 6-over-par 78, with Ross McWilliams close on his heels with a 79. Shane Parker shot an 83 and Michael Burton had an 87.
Jonathan Winstead led Union and took medalist honors by three strokes with a 3-over-par 75. He was the Class 1A state runner-up a year ago.
Union also got an 80 from Ian Ferrell, an 89 from Daniel Johnson, and a 92 from Casey Shackelford.
Kosciusko took third place with a 353. Trent Adams led the Whippets with an 82. Drew Baird fired an 86, Johnathon Dickerson had a 91, and Sean Galligan had a 94.
Colby Amis led Newton County to a fourth-place finish with an 81. The Cougars also got an 86 from Kyle Killens, a 93 from Justin Reynolds, and a 98 from Justin Morrow.
Carthage finished fifth. The Tigers got a pair of 95s from Richie Long and Jason Long.
Choctaw Central got a 91 from Lee Parkerson.
