SCOOBA East Mississippi Community College head women's basketball coach Dale Peay opened his signing class with a pair of guards.
The Lady Lions welcomed Quitman's Kemonica McGee and Starkville's Jennifer Jones into its basketball den on Thursday.
"I think we got two quality athletes to start, and we are hoping more quality young ladies will join us for next year," Peay said in a Thursday afternoon telephone interview.
Peay said McGee will most likely be used in the two-guard spot with EMCC, and he expects her to contribute to the team right away.
"We are real excited about signing Kemonica," Peay said. "She has a lot of athletic ability, and we hope she can come in and make an immediate impact on our team.
"Kemonica loves to play basketball, and she is a gym rat," Peay added.
Jones, who will likely play the three spot for the Lady Lions, comes to EMCC after playing basketball for the first time in three years at Starkville.
The 5-foot-8 guard did not play high school basketball as a sophomore or junior, but she was able to contribute to the Lady Yellowjackets' 18-7 squad in her final year of high school.
"Jennifer has a lot of athletic ability," Peay said. "She fits into the style of basketball we like to play, which is to push the ball up the floor."
