Knights blast past Carthage

The West Lauderdale Knights pounded out 12 hits to take a 7-2 win over Carthage in Division 5-3A baseball action on Friday.
Caleb Dulaney led the Knights with a pair of doubles, and Drew Snider added two singles for West Lauderdale. Tyler Vick had two hits, including a double. Brock Mosley hit a single and double for the Knights.
West Lauderdale (22-5) returns to action Monday at Thomasville (Ala.).
Clarkdale 9
Bay Springs 4
The Bulldogs pounded out 10 hits and Kyle Boswell recorded the win on the mound in a Division 7-2A road win over Bay Springs Friday. Boswell (6-3) pitched seven innings and collected 14 strikeouts for Clarkdale.
Curt Singley led the offense with three singles and three RBIs. David Riley chipped in with two hits, and Calvin Eastman added two singles.
Clarkdale (14-7) will return action today at Wayne County beginning at 5 p.m.
Newton Academy 7
Winston Academy 2
The Generals improved to 16-5 with a five-run road victory over the Patriots Friday. Morgan Craven led the way with two doubles and a home run for Newton Academy.
John Shellenback collected two hits, including a double, and Tommy Harthcock had two singles. Newton Academy will return to action Tuesday at Wayne Academy.
Philadelphia 14
Noxapater 3
The Tornadoes scored eight runs in the first inning to improve its record to 16-6 with a win over Noxapater. Jamall Peebles led the way with a home run and two RBIs. Bubba Boler had four hits, including three singles and a double for Philadelphia.
Jason Reed picked up the pitching win for the Tornadoes, and C.J. Tatum took the loss for Noxapater.

Lake 6
Philadelphia secured a win over the Hornets on Thursday by a 10-run margin thanks to seven runs in the fifth inning.
Jeremy Bler led the way with three singles and two RBIs, and Landon Gilmer added two hits, including a double.
Zack Edwards led Lake with three singles and two runs scored. Chas McClain took the pitching win for the Tornadoes, and Jason Judge took the loss for Lake.

Choctaw Central 2
The Knights scored a victory over Choctaw Central on Wednesday. Caleb Dulaney led the offense with three hits, including a grand slam home run.
Bo Davis notched a triple and single for the Knights, and Jay Stoddard picked up the pitching win for West Lauderdale.

NE Lauderdale 9
Quitman 1
Jennifer Bristow led the Lady Trojans with two triples in an eight-run win over Quitman on Thursday. Amber Gray collected a double for Northeast Lauderdale. Jana Olczak took the pitching win, striking out four.
Northeast Lauderdale returns to action today in the first round of the playoffs at Pass Christian.
PREP TENNIS
West Lauderdale 5
Newton 0
The West Lauderdale Knights cruised to a shutout in tennis action on Friday. Casey Hedgepeth defeated Shonda Blaylock 6-2, 6-2 in girls singles, while Clayton Keller defeated Antonio Thames 6-1, 6-2 in boys singles.
Girls doubles action saw Lea Cook and Bliss Pigott defeat Ashley Nicholson and Precila Graffery 6-1, 6-0, while Eric Smith and Josh Sonak defeated Travalone Evans and Lorenzo Jones 6-0, 6-1 in boys doubles.
The West Lauderdale mixed doubles duo of Brook Bounds and Matt Shamrock defeated Mattie Wheaton and Steven McClenlon 6-1, 6-2 to secure the team sweep.
West Lauderdale will host Forest Tuesday in the final divisional match of the season.
PREP GOLF
West Lauderdale tallied a team score of 310 to win the West Lauderdale Invitational on Friday. Shane Parker and Ross McWilliams led the Knights with each player scoring 75, and Jarrod Moulds and Michael Buton each scored an 80.
Clarkdale's Brain Tomerlin earned medalist honors with a score of 74
Meridian High finished in second place with a team score of 315, and John Yarbrough led the Wilcats with a 77. Clarkdale took third place with a team score of 332. Southeast ended the day in fourth place with a score of 438, and Kevin Davis scored a team-low 88.
JUCO BASEBALL
Jones 2-5
Co-Lin 4-8
The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves took a pair of games from Jones Junior College on Friday afternoon at Bobcat Field. Co-Lin took the opener 4-2 and won the nightcap, 8-5.
Jones falls to 12-25 overall, 2-8 in the South Division. Co-Lin improves to 24-10 overall, 8-2 in league play.
In the opener, Jones led 2-1 after three, but the Wolves put up three in the fourth and held on for the win. Ryan Belanger went the distance and posted the victory, scattering six hits.
Jones' Ty Lawson (2-6) went the first four innings and took the loss.
In game two, Co-Lin put up six runs in the second inning en route to the victory. Jones' Dustin Cooke (2-2) went 1.1 innings and took the loss.
The Bobcats host East Mississippi on Monday at 6 p.m. Co-Lin hosts Meridian Tuesday at 3 p.m.

The Warriors dropped a pair of MACJC divisional games on the road at Hinds Friday afternoon. East Central fell to 10-24 overall and 1-9 in MACJC South Division play. Game stats were not available at press time.
