New golf cart up for grabs for East Mississippi golfers

By By Tony Krausz / assistant sports editor
Mitchell Distributing has sweetened the pot for golfers participating in select golf tournaments this summer.
The distributor of Anheuser-Busch Beers will offer golfers in East Mississippi a chance to win a 2004 Michelob Ultra Club Car golf cart from Randy Watkins Golf Cars in Ridgeland.
Michelob Ultra is the official beer of the PGA Tour, Champions Tour, LPGA Tour and World Golf Championship Events. It is also endorses PGA player Sergio Garcia.
The promotional competition will be part of local golf tournaments, in which a par-3 Michelob Ultra hole will be designated for each day of competition.
Closest-to-the-hole winners for the designated hole will be entered for a drawing to win the cart. The drawing is scheduled to take place in mid-September.
Winners will also receive a 48-quart ice chest and a case of Michelob Ultra for being the closest to the hole.
The cart giveaway will be part of an estimated 20 tournaments this summer, Briarwood and Lakeview in Meridian will participate in the giveaway, and courses in Philadelphia, Newton, Louisville and Forest will also take part in the promotion.
The golf cart is manufactured by Club Car and is said to be the "ultimate" cart on the clubcarprecedent.com Web site.
The electric cart was made after two years of talking with head professionals, owners, managers, superintendents and players.
Briarwood golf pro Rob McGraw said the chance to win the new cart could help draw more participants to the local tournaments this season.
The first chance to qualify to win the cart will be at the Ponta Creek Silver Anniversary Three Person Scramble at the Naval Air Station. Participants must be over 21 to enter for a chance to win the cart.
