Newton County Academy answered Leake Academy's three-run sixth inning with three runs of its own in the bottom of half of the inning to pull out a 9-8 win on Monday.
Brad Harrison struck out four and scattered three hits to pick up the win for Newton County Academy. Harrison is 3-0.
Blake Hedrick went 3-for-4 for NCA, which is 13-8. Morgan Craven added a double and a single with an RBI.
Oak Grove 18
Wayne County 1
Oak Grove (13-4) scored seven runs early in the second inning to cruise to the victory. Grant Houge led Oak Grove with five singles and Hayes Singleton added a home run.
John David Childs took the win for the Warriors on the mound and Wayne Reynolds took the pitching loss for Wayne County. Brandan Jordan led the way offensively for the War Eagles with two doubles.
Lake 7
Choctaw Central 6
Lake scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the one-run victory over the Warriors. Adam Brown led the Hornets at the plate with two hits including a home run and Terrell Ricks added two singles.
Zack Edwards took the win on the mound and improved to 1-0.
Union 7
Morton 6
The Yellow Jackets took a win over non-divisional foe Morton on Saturday thanks to a run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 6-6 tie. Wes Henry was given credit for the pitching win for Union.
Henry was the leading hitter for Union with three hits, including a double.
Pearl 2
Neshoba Central 0
The Pirates scored one run each in the third and fourth innings to take the two-run win over Neshoba Central on Saturday. Pearl held the Rockets to only three hits in the game and Neshoba Central committed four errors in the field.
Jason Muirhead took the win on the mound for Pearl and improved to 4-1 for the season and Taylor Petty took the loss. Jack Craven led the Pirates at the plate with a double.
Union 4
St. Aloysius 3
Union also took a one-run win over the Flashes to take a sweep on Saturday. Henry once again led the Yellow Jackets at the plate with a double and Michael Graham took the pitching win to improve to 3-0 for the season.
Newton County 9
St. Andrews 5
Newton County scored eight runs in the final two innings to take the win on the road at St. Andrews on Saturday. Jared Cavenaugh led the Cougars with three hits, including a triple. Josh Pender added two singles and a double and Zach Pillsbury collected two hits for Newton County.
Bud Loper (3-4) took the pitching win for Newton County.
Newton County 23
St. Joseph 10
The Cougars took their second win on Saturday by pounding out 19 hits to defeat St. Joseph by a final of 23-10. Loper led Newton County with four hits and Cavenaugh added a pair of hits, including a double.
PREP SOFTBALL
Meridian 13
Wayne Co. 2
Meridian scored in every inning on Monday in a 13-2 win over Wayne County.
The Lady Wildcats had two runs in the first inning, three in the second, five in the third and three more in the fourth before taking the win via the 10-run rule.
Both of Wayne County's runs came in the top of the fourth inning.
Brandi Limerick took the win for Meridian and improved to 10-7.
Ebonee Ball had two hits, as did Meagan Patton and Lindsay Lang. Patton had a double, and Lang hit a home run.
Jay Bond accounted for two of Wayne County's three hits.
Meridian plays Choctaw Central tonight.
Newton County 12
SE Lauderdale 1
Lindsey Stevens allowed just one run and also hit a triple in Newton County's 12-1 win over Southeast Lauderdale on Monday.
Joni Seale added a double for Newton County.
Meagan Myrick went 2-for-2 with a triple for Southeast Lauderdale.
Grenada 7
Union 1
Union only managed six hits as the Lady Yellow Jackets dropped a six-run loss on Saturday in the Clinton Tournament and Lindsey Walker took the loss on the mound for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Loren Kennedy led the way for Union with two hits and Deann Cleveland chipped in with a double.
