The Northeast Lauderdale Lady Trojans have played one of the toughest schedules in Mississippi this season.
Some of the teams the Lady Trojans have played are powerhouses Madison Central, New Hope, Newton County and Neshoba Central.
Northeast has experienced some bumps in the road, but in district action the Lady Trojans have been nothing but superb.
Northeast scored five runs in the first inning and took advantage of several Wayne County errors to take a 14-3 win at Northeast Park on Monday night.
The Lady Trojans are now 3-0 in Division 5-4A, and head coach Chris Harper is pleased with the way his team has progressed after the slow start.
The Lady Trojans struck for five runs in the first inning to take a 5-0 lead over the Lady War Eagles. Capri Norris started the inning with a double and later came around to score on an RBI single by Jennifer Bristow to give Northeast a 1-0 lead.
Amber Gray followed with a single and both runs crossed the plate on a two-run triple by Savannah Hall to extend the lead to 3-0. Two more runs scored in the inning on a pair of passed balls by Wayne County to make the score 5-0 heading into the second inning.
Northeast continued to build the lead with six more runs in the second inning to take a comfortable 11-0 lead. Norris led the inning off with an infield single and later scored on an error to make the score 6-0.
The Lady Trojans took full advantage of several mistakes on the infield by Wayne County to extend the lead to 9-0. Norris and Candice White collected the only other hits of the inning that drove a pair of runs in to make the score 11-0.
Wayne County avoided a shutout in the third inning with three runs to cut the lead to 11-3. Chasity Davis led the inning off with a single and Quenyata McCann reached on an error by Northeast which led to the first score of the night for the Lady War Eagles.
Two more runs scored thanks to Northeast Lauderdale errors.
Northeast answered right back with a run in the bottom of the third off an RBI single by Savannah Hall to make the score 12-3.
Northeast added its final two runs of night in the fourth inning to cruise to the win. Bristow knocked in one run on a sacrifice fly to right field and the second run scored on a throwing error.
Northeast (10-11, 3-0) returns to action today against Southeast Lauderdale in a game postponed from earlier in the season. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Northeast Park.
