Patriots sweep Lamar

Jackson Prep finished off a division sweep of Lamar School in prep baseball on Friday night with two wins over the Raiders.
The Patriots pulled out an 8-2 victory over Lamar in the opening game of the doubleheader and took the nightcap 9-3.
In the first game, the Raiders used a strong pitching performance from Jeremiah Lovett to give the Patriots all they could handle for much of the game.
Jackson Prep pitcher Kyle Moore was equally impressive, however, and Jackson Prep used a couple of big innings late in the game to pull out the win.
Lamar jumped out to a lead in the fifth inning. Randy Boyd Thompson reached on a bad hop at third base and scored on a triple by Parker Payne. The triple was one of three hits for Payne in the game and made the score 1-0.
The Patriots came back strong in the sixth inning to take over. Jo Jo Tann walked and Hunter Owen followed with an infield single. After steals gave Jackson Prep runners at second and third, Brett Benson was intentionally walked to load the bases for Christian Barnes.
Barnes came through with a two-run single to give Prep a 2-1 lead. Jackson Prep scored another run on a wild pitch to make the score 3-1.
Later in the inning, Joseph Queen delivered a two-out, two-run single to give the Patriots a 5-1 lead.
Lamar came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kemp Mosley walked and moved to third on a pair of wild pitches. Josh Waters moved Mosley in with a ground out to make the score 5-2.
Prep added some insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to seal the win. Owen doubled and scored on a single by Barnes to make the score 6-2 and Ryan Peets delivered a two-run homer to make the final score 8-2.

The Raiders again threatened the Patriots in the second game of the evening but could not come away with the victory to salvage a game in the series.
Randy Boyd Thompson went 4-for-4 with two home runs and also pitched well for the Raiders but Jackson Prep was just a little too strong for Lamar in the end.
Thompson put the Raiders on top with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning.
Thompson also sat down the Patriots in the first two innings to help the Raiders hold on to a slim 1-0 lead.
Prep finally got going in the third inning with three runs. Swayze Waters hit a home run to tie the game at one.
Queen doubled and Tann walked with two outs in the inning. Wallace McLaurin followed with a clutch two-run double to make the score 3-1.
Thompson got one of the runs back in the bottom of the third inning with his second home run of the game to make the score 3-2.
The score remained 3-2 until the top of the fifth inning when Prep got a pair of runs on one hit. Queen walked and Tann doubled. Queen scored on an error and Barnes brought in Tann with a ground out to make the score 5-2.
Lamar cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nathan Harrison walked and stole second to get into scoring position with no outs.
After a pair of strikeouts from Jackson Prep pitcher Drew Maddox, Thompson delivered a single to bring in the run to make the score 5-3.
The Patriots were just two strong in the final innings and added four runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
Queen doubled and later in the inning Barnes delivered a two-run double. After an infield single by Owen, Maddox ripped a two-run double to make the final score 9-3.
The loss drops Lamar to 3-10 for the season and 1-5 in conference play. The Raiders will travel to play Parklane on Tuesday night and the final two games of the series on Friday.
