Chance leads Northeast

Cory Chance allowed just three hits and tallied 10 strikeouts on Friday to lead Northeast Lauderdale to a 12-2 prep baseball win over Northeast Jones.
Chance improved to 5-1.
Nathan Peden went 2-for-3 with a triple for the Trojans, who are now 12-3 overall and 4-1 in district play.
Northeast Lauderdale visits Mendenhall on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Newton County Academy picked up the first of two wins on Friday with a 9-6 victory over Franklin Academy.
Tied 6-6 going into the ninth inning, Newton County Academy picked up three runs to secure the win.
Sam Thames got the win in relief for NCA, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out two.
Thames also had two singles and an RBI. Lee Blackburn added two singles of his own, and Tommy Harthcock hit a double and a single.
Franklin Academy fell to 13-2.

Univ. Christian 0
Newton County Academy got a 10-run-rule victory over University Christian, pounding out 15 runs in a shutout win.
Sam Thames was 2-for-4 from the plate for Newton County Academy, which improved its record to 9-1.
Newton County Academy led 6-0 after the first two innings, then poured on nine runs in the fourth. The game was stopped after the fourth inning ended with NCA up by double digits.
Tommy Harthcock got the win for Newton County Academy, improving to 4-1.

East Mississippi 3-5
Northeast 2-6
East Mississippi Community College split its doubleheader with Northeast on Friday, pulling out a 3-2 victory in game one before falling 6-5 in the nightcap.
Blake Pippin hit the game-winning double for the Lions in the first game, driving in Trey Barney. Jonathan Russell got the win for East Mississippi, improving to 2-3.
Tyler Maxwell took the loss in the second game, falling to 1-1.
East Mississippi takes on Pearl River today in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.

Meridian 7-8
Jefferson Davis 2-3
Meridian Community College slugged its way to a doubleheader sweep of Jefferson Davis on Friday, getting a 7-2 win in game one and an 8-3 victory in the second contest.
In the first game, the Eagles pounded Jefferson Davis with four home runs. Michael Murray, Van Pope, Aaron George and Kyle Ginn each went deep for Meridian.
Chad Catalano improved to 5-0 for the Eagles, pitching six innings and scattering four hits while yielding two runs.
Sam Self was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for MCC.
In game two, George went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double and Josh Morgan added a grand slam to help the Eagles improve 19-3.
Murray was 3-for-4 for Meridian in the second game, as was Pope.
