Lions split doubleheader with Bobcats

SCOOBA East Mississippi Community College won a wild second game in a baseball doubleheader against Jones Junior College on Tuesday.
After dropping the first game 19-4 to the Bobcats (6-10), the Lions (5-9) pounded out an 11-9 victory in the second game of the day.
EMCC's Blake Pippin broke a 9-9 tie in the bottom of the fifth with a full-count single to bring home Tyler Bratton for a 10-9 lead, and Justin Best knocked in an insurance run in the sixth inning for the Lions on a single to right-center.
The Lions and Bobcats exchanged the lead four times in the second game, and the score was tied twice.
EMCC's Justin Faulkner, who went 3-for-4, hit a grand slam in the fourth inning, and Chris Stamps, who went 2-for-4, hit a two-run homer for the Lions in the second inning.
Tyler Maxwell, who entered the game as a reliever, recorded the win for EMCC to improve his season record to 1-0.
JCJC's Baker Ford notched two hits in the game two with a triple and two RBIs.
In the opening game, Ford had three hits for the Bobcats, with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs.
Jared Myrick recorded three hits for JCJC with four RBIs, and Elliot Burch had two hits with a home run and four RBIs.
Ty Lawson picked up the game-one win for the Bobcats to improve his record to 2-2.
PREP BASEBALL
Meridian 7
Brandon 5
Wildcats junior pitcher Kedric Martin posted his third win of the season on the mound, as he combined with reliever Tyler McMullen to strike out 17 batters in the win over Brandon.
Meridian High's Cordera Eason led the team's offense push with two doubles, and Fernando Atterberry notched a pair of hits for the Wildcats (5-3).
Meridian scored three runs in the top of the first to open a lead, then tacked on two in the top of the seventh to close the game out.
The Wildcats play host to region foe Murrah at Q.V. Sykes Park Friday at 6 p.m.
Clarkdale 12
Lake 5
Clarkdale improved its record to 4-3 for the season with a win over Lake on Tuesday.
Justin Mosley recorded the win for the Bulldogs pitching 2.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out four.
Clarkdale's Kevin McKissack had a double and a single for three RBIs, and David Riley had a double and a single for two RBIs. Kyle Boswell notched an RBI double for the Bulldogs.
Lake's Terrell Ricks hit a double and a single.
Newton 18
Kemper County 2
Newton High School posted its first win of the season Tuesday night against Kemper County.
Jeffery Logan was the winning pitcher for Newton, smacking a double to help his own cause in the five-inning contest.
Kevin Harris and Chuckie Curry each had two hits for Newton (1-3), and Phillip Evans hit a double.
Nanih Waiya 9
East Oktibbeha 5
Nanih Waiya used three late runs in the sixth inning to take a home win over East Oktibbeha on Monday.
Cody Vowells earned the win on the mound for the Warriors and improved his record to 2-1 for the season. Cody Vandevender led the way for Nanih Waiya with a home run and Vowells also helped his cause with a double. Chris Parker also collected two singles in the game for the Eagles.
Louisville 8
Neshoba Central 4
Louisville (8-0) scored five runs in the top of the second inning, which proved to be the difference in the win over Neshoba Central on Monday night.
Ken Coleman led the way with three hits, including a double, for Louisville and Chris Perry also added two singles in the win. Cody Kelley picked up the win on the mound, moving his record to 2-0.
Taylor Petty led Neshoba Central with a pair of singles and a home run. Alan Sisson also added a home run and a single for the Rockets.
Leake Academy 10
Central 0
Leake Academy (2-0) continued its winning ways with a shutout of Central on Monday. Cory Burns led the way with a single and double, while Allen Johnson added a pair of hits in the win.
Thomas Chipley (1-0) took the pitching win for Leake Academy and Chipley also had two singles.
Lake 13
Kemper County 1
The Hornets moved to 5-3 for the season with a 12-run win over Kemper County on Monday night. Adam Brown led the way for Lake with a single and double, while Markus Ricks also added a home run. Ryan Sorey took his first win of the season on the mound for Lake.
PREP SOFTBALL
Riverside 15
Noxapater 14
Riverside scored four runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to take the high-scoring win over Noxapater in fast-pitch softball on Tuesday night.
Noxapater, now 2-2 on the season, used a grand slam by Larita Bates on the way to a five-run fifth inning, but it wasn't enough.
Janeka Moore had a homer and two singles for Noxapater, which finished the game with seven hits, but made six errors. Jaqlene Robinson added a double for the Lady Tigers.
Riverside on six hits and made four errors to moved to 1-1 on the season.
Neshoba Central 12
NE Lauderdale 1
The Lady Trojans fell at the hands of the Lady Rockets by an 11-run margin on Monday night. Jana Olczak led the way at the plate for Northeast Lauderdale with an RBI double.
Shelly Odom added a single in the loss and Jennifer Bristow took the pitching loss for the Lady Trojans.
West Lauderdale 14
Louisville 2
The Lady Knights used 17 walks to go along with nine hits to take a road win on Monday. West Lauderdale was led at the plate by Kirby Rutledge with a pair of singles.
Rutledge also scored two runs, and Holly Herrington went 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
Union 16
Carthage 3
The Lady Yellowjackets picked up a non-divisional win on Monday and used 17 total hits in the process. Lindsey Walker took the win on the mound for Union with 10 strikeouts in the complete game victory.
Chasity Yates led the way with three singles and Lauren White also went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Lauren Kennedy also had two singles and Morgan Breeland picked up three singles in the win. Page Houlsen added two singles for Union (2-1) with a pair of RBIs.
Philadelphia 19
Nanih Waiya 8
The Lady Tornadoes pounded out 14 hits to take a non-divisional road win over Nanih Waiya back on Monday. Shelby Smith (4-0) picked up the pitching win and moved her team to 4-0.
Candice Griffin led the way with three hits for Philadelphia including a triple. Brittney Hodges also had three singles in the win and Dawn Rushing picked up of singles for the Lady Tornadoes.
Christy Hickman had two singles in the loss for Nanih Waiya and Kim Blackwell took the pitching loss for Nanih Waiya.
Mize 7
Enterprise 3
The Lady Bulldogs surrendered five runs in the top of the fourth to take the home loss to Mize on Monday. Leslie Speed led Enterprise with a triple in the setback and Amanda Parker took the loss on the mound.
JUCO SOFTBALL
East Central 2-1
Southwest 0-3
The Lady Warriors were able to get a great performance on the mound from Laren Barrett in game one, but the defense for East Central proved to be the downfall in game two.
Barrett tossed a seven-inning one-hit game to lead East Central to the shutout win. Krissi Harris, Alana Moore, and Marley Smith each had a single in the game one win.
ECCC committed three errors in the field in game two which was costly as the Lady Warriors only had five hits on offense. Lane Hart and Jhaun Sparnecht each had a double in the loss for East Central (5-3).
