Another step taken to supply water, sewer lines to industrial park

Lauderdale County Supervisors approved an order Monday that may help the city of Meridian get to work on long-awaited water and sewer lines to the Interstate 20/59 industrial park.
The action, which granted the city's request for easements for utilities to be installed, was taken in the supervisors' role as the Lauderdale County Economic Development District Trustees.
District 3 Supervisor Craig Hitt, who also serves as president of the board of supervisors, said the city is still working on getting approvals from families on parcels of land to run the lines from where the city services stop now, to the industrial park.
The county purchased the land for the industrial park in 2000 with an inter-local agreement for the city to install the water and sewer lines.
Rick Barry, attorney for the board of supervisors, said the order conveys a small piece of property for a lift station, two temporary construction easements and two permanent construction easements.
Other Business
On Monday, the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors also:
Approved changing the name of Hamrick Road West to Mabry Lane after all residents along the road requested the change.
Approved a motion asking the city of Meridian to change the name of Sweet Gum Bottom Road to A.M. Walker Road. The name change was sought by District 5 supervisor Ray Boswell at the request of resident Obie Clark.
Held a public hearing on the convenience and necessity of expanding the Northeast Fire Protection Grading District. No citizens addressed the board; a final public hearing will be held Dec. 1 to finalize the expansion of the fire district. Clarence Butler, Lauderdale County fire coordinator, said expansion of the fire district will bring the added residents a reduction of about 50 percent in their fire insurance rates.
