Riley employees get creative
in pumpkin-carving contest

Some were frightful. Some were adorable. And one stood tall as the Prince of Autumn. But, all in all, this year's entries in Riley Hospital's annual employee pumpkin carving/decorating contest were quite creative.
This is the fifth year Riley has sponsored a pumpkin carving/decorating contest. Among the entries were a frightening Frankenstein doing physical therapy, baby pumpkins, a witch, wounded patients, a headless man and a miniature haunted house.
Winning the Best of Show title, along with a pizza party, was the Surgical Services Department, which includes Surgery, Short Stay Surgery and the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. Their colorful entry decorated in fall foliage was called "Prince of Autumn," and was dedicated to LaFrance Chandler, an employee who passed away earlier this year.
Other category winners included:
The Laboratory, first place in the Best Painted Pumpkin category for "Schizo Susie," a witch on one side and a normal woman's face on the other;
The 5-North nursing unit, runner-up in the painted division for its pumpkin nurse;
Riley Home Health, first place in Best Carved Pumpkin for its patriotic design;
ICU's nursing unit, runner-up in the carved category;
Tom C. Maynor Rehabilitation Center, first place in the Best Pumpkin Scene category for its haunted house; and
Radiology, runner-up in the pumpkin scene category for its wounded hunter.
