Exciting times at Newton County High

By Staff
October 26, 2003
Students, faculty and staff at Newton County High School seem genuinely excited about their school's selection as one of 10 schools in the nation to participate in a study on how schools prepare students for success in college.
Newton County High was chosen from a pool of more than 4,000 schools because of its strong scores on the English portion of the American College Test and its diverse student population. It received a Level 4, or "superior," accreditation level for this school year.
Principal Rodney Tadlock says the depth of the school's English program and heavy emphasis on reading are among the reasons students have done so well on the ACT.
The study is called "On Course for Success." It is co-sponsored by ACT and the Education Trust, a data-gathering organization. The goal is to determine which elements of high school courses prepare students for college-level work.
We congratulate Newton County High School for being selected for this study and believe that its successful programs can be a model for other schools that have not been so fortunate in educational achievement.
