Rush Health Systems plans purchase of Rush Medical Group

By By Steve Gillespie / staff writer
Oct. 28, 2003
If all goes as planned, Rush Medical Group, a longtime physician's association in Meridian, will become part of Rush Health Systems in January.
Donnie Smith, corporate director of human resources and public relations for Rush Health Systems, which also owns Rush Foundation Hospital, confirmed the news Monday.
He also said that the Rush Medical Group board of directors voted last week to sell the association to Rush Health System's medical practices division. But, he said, the transaction is not expected to be official until January.
Dr. David Mackey, who Smith identified as chairman of the Rush Medical Group board, could not be reached for comment.
Smith said many Rush Medical Group employees have been told about the plans. He said there are about 320 employees at Rush Medical Group and about 30 physicians.
Outside of the name, Smith said the purchase isn't expected to bring about any other changes. He said the name will be changed from Rush Medical Group P.A. to Rush Medical Group Inc.
Rush Medical Group is at 1800 12th St. It is a multi-specialty group of physicians of various practices, including internal medicine, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, pathology, urology, radiology, neurology, anesthesiology, family practice and obstetrics and gynecology.
