It's lights, camera, action when the "Meridian World Cinema Festival: World in the Movies" takes to the screen.
Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus is sponsoring the festival through a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council.
Film festival organizers hope to educate the public about foreign films and also have a little fun. All films are free and open to the public.
The festival kicks off Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Kahlmus Auditorium on the MSU-Meridian Campus with the hit Japanese film "Shall We Dance?"
The film festival continues Nov. 7 with "No Man's Land," a film set in Bosnia, and Nov. 14 with "Guantanamera," a production from Cuba.
The film series will continue into next year and conclude with a special guest speaker on Feb. 13.
Brian O'Neil, a professor and film expert from the University of Southern Mississippi, has written books on film making and will speak to the audience.
