Progress in public housing

A $359,881 federal grant will help the Meridian Housing Authority demolish 78 old public housing units at Davis Courts, leading, hopefully, to newer housing units that offer more acceptable living conditions for residents. Public housing serves a genuine need in Meridian. It is good news that these eyesores will be eliminated from the landscape.
The secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Mel Martinez, said the grant will be the impetus to improve the site and surrounding neighborhood. This is certainly a good step toward that end.
