WASHINGTON The Bureau of Justice Assistance will provide $139,170 in local law enforcement grants next month to 24 cities and counties in Mississippi's 3rd Congressional District.
The grants, announced this week, will provide local law enforcement with funds to help purchase 418 bullet-resistant vests. Local law enforcement agencies must provide at least 50 percent of the costs.
In East Mississippi, Lauderdale County will get $9,759 for 40 vests; Newton will get $8,608 for 15 vests; Philadelphia will get $6,625 for 29 vests; Scooba will get $1,958 for six vests; and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will get $19,093 for 39 vests.
