Dixie Lanes site of bowling battles

Another good crowd and some competitive action should make the bowling competition in the State Games of Mississippi a success once again.
Bowlers will hit the lanes at Dixie Bowl Lanes during shifts on Saturday and Sunday to attempt to win a gold medal.
The action kicks off Saturday with shifts at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The shifts on Sunday will be at noon and 2 p.m.
According to event commissioner Shayne Barfield, the event is still getting interest.
The fee for joining before the deadline was $14 per youth bowler and $16 for adults, but bowlers will be able to sign up as late as 30 minutes prior to each shift for an additional $5.
A good group of local bowlers are expected to be involved in the event. Some people from outside Meridian have also shown some interest in the competition.
The competitors will compete in divisions according to their average and the winner of medals will be determined by scratch scores. Men will bowl men and women will bowl against women in every division.
The event is sanctioned by the American Bowling Congress, Women's International Bowling Congress and Young American Bowling Alliance, but will also be open to non-members.
The ABC and WIBC bowlers will bowl six games while the YABA bowlers will each bowl four games.
The event usually enjoys a pretty good crowd and this year should be no exception.
