Laurel Jones County Soccer Association (LJCSA) crisscrossed its way to the gold medal in girls' under-12 soccer at the State Games of Mississippi against George Greene Soccer Association (GGSA) Sunday afternoon the Jaycee Soccer Complex.
LJCSA forward Courtney Sumrall sent two textbook crossing passes in front of the GGSA net about two minutes apart midway through the final half that her teammates turned into goals in LJCSA's 4-1 victory.
Ali Butler found the back of the net on Sumrall's first cross at the 13-minute mark to tie the game at one.
LJCSA took a 2-1 lead at the 15-minute mark on a goal from Kristin Satcher, who buried a pass from Sumrall that carried from the right goalpost to the left goalpost.
Satcher scored again for LJCSA a the game's 20-minute mark.
Sumrall got into the scoring act herself with six minutes remaining in the game scoring on a rainbow shot from about 25 yards out
South Madison Soccer Club won the bronze medal posting a 2-1 victory over Vicksburg.
Clinton Inferno boys 4
Greenwood 2
Clinton Inferno jumped out to a quick start against Greenwood in the U12 boys' gold-medal contest scoring two goals in the game's opening six minutes.
Inferno forward Emmanuel Ezejiofo dribbled through Greenwood's defense and pushed a shot past the goaltender's left side to notch the match's first goal three minutes into the game.
Kent Milsap struck again for Clinton three minutes later scoring on a rebound, after the Greenwood keeper blocked an initial shot near the top of the goalie box.
Clinton's Tyler Brown sent a headball into the net off a corner kick three minutes into the half for a 3-0 lead
Greenwood got a goal back at the second half's five-minute mark with a headball goal of its own, as Tyler Fondren headed a ball in off a cross.
Spencer White sliced the Inferno's lead to 3-2 with 10 minutes left in the game collecting Greenwood's second goal, but Milsap notched his second goal two minutes later to keep the comfortable lead.
In the bronze-medal game, Meridian Youth Soccer Organization tallied a 5-1 victory over Brandon Revolution.
