Hathorn steps down at Clarkdale

Bubba Hathorn, who turned around the one-time moribund Clarkdale High School football program, announced Thursday his resignation from the school.
The resignation was to be made official at Thursday evening's Lauderdale County Board of Education meeting.
Hathorn said that an opportunity to coach football at a higher classification school in Mississippi had become available.
Yet his decision to leave Clarkdale after two seasons is. Hathorn was responsible for turning around one of the worst programs in the state. The Bulldogs had suffered 20 straight losing seasons before breaking that string last year with a 7-5 record which included the school's first district/division championship in football.
Hathorn came to Clarkdale after a successful stint as an assistant coach at Wayne County High School in Waynesboro. His first Clarkdale team went 3-7, a marked improvement considering the Bulldogs had gone 5-67 in the previous seven seasons.
