SEBASTOPOL Services for Angie Mowdy will be held today at 2 p.m. at Milling Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Reggie Williams and Stacey Sykes officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery in Newton County.
Mrs. Mowdy, 74, of Conehatta, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in Newton County.
Survivors include her daughters, Ann French and her husband, Larry, of Decatur and Kathy Shepard and her husband, Gerald, of Sebastopol; three grandchildren, Jason French, Jade Sharron and Alex Shepard; sisters, Jo Swearingen of DeKalb and Sue Watkins of Sebastopol; brothers, Alfred Brown of Columbia and Conner Brown of Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Alli French, Hagan French and Blake Sharron; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Mowdy.
Pallbearers will be Rudolph Williams, Kerry Brown, Craig Brown, Gilbert Brown and Gary Hare.
Homemaker
DOTHAN, Ala. Graveside service for Joyce Harper Butler will be held today at 2 p.m. at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Quitman with the Rev. Andy Cotton officiating. Byrd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Butler, 79, of Dothan, formerly of Meridian, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Flowers Hospital. She was born April 6, 1924, in Meridian, and lived most of her life there. She was a homemaker and the widow of James E. Butler. She had been a resident of Dothan since 1999 and a member of the Methodist church.
Survivors include her son, Hal H. Johnson of Grovehill, Ala.; a granddaughter, Kelley Johnson and her husband, John, of Grovehill; a great-granddaughter, Allison Johnson of Grovehill; a sister, Hazel H. Harper and her husband Mack, of Dothan; sisters-in-law, Mace Harper of Meridian and Jean Harper of Daphne, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Butler; her parents, Clarence M. and Velma K. Harper; brothers, Norman K. Harper and Kenneth "Bud" Harper; and a sister, Helen H. Ratcliff.
Self-employed farmer
BUTLER, Ala. Graveside services for Marzine Fred "Tiny" Sample will be held today at 4 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Russell Wray and Scottie Fulcher officiating. Bumpers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sample, 78, of Toxey, Ala., died Monday, June 9, 2003, in Toxey. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Hall Sample of Toxey; four step-children, 13 step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a brother, Buddy Sample of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Pat Cole of Louisiana and Jessie Mae Barber of Texas; a loved granddaughter, Hannah Harper; and his "favorite duck hunting buddy" Johnny.
Visitation will be today one hour prior to the service at the church.
U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman
Services for Dawn Janise York will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Edward O'Conner officiating. Burial will be in Daleville Methodist Church Cemetery. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. York, 39, of Daleville, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Survivors include her son, Allen Dierig of Wichita Falls, Texas; parents, Edward and Jean York of Daleville; sisters, Tami Perry and her husband, Colin, of Daphne, Ala., and Dina Fausto and her husband, Abraham, of Temecula, Ala.; brothers, Edward Mueller York and his wife, Gabi, of Kelkheim, Germany, and Robert York and his wife, Melanie, of Kewanee; 14 nieces and nephews; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and her former husband and father of her son, Greg Dierig.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; and a special friend, Carol Formby.
Memorials may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Daleville Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
Pallbearers will be Brandon York, Michael York, Abraham Fausto, Colin Perry, Pat Wright, Jerry Smith, Chris Douglas and Henry Warnick.
