Fishing rodeo set Saturday in Philadelphia

Get your hook, line and sinker ready for Saturday's fishing rodeo in Philadelphia.
Youth, senior citizens and handicapped persons are invited to experience the great outdoors.
About 1,200 people are expected to attend Saturday's rodeo. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., fishing gets underway at 8 a.m. and weigh-in begins about 11 a.m. Trophies and prizes for the largest fish and the largest catch in different age categories will be awarded. Several tagged fish also carry special prizes.
Fishing equipment and bait are furnished, but Hazelwood recommends that participants bring their own equipment in case supplies run out.
The rodeo is held twice a year in June and October at Airpark Pond owned by Dr. Walt Willis.
In addition to residents of area nursing homes, more than 30 children from the Mississippi School for the Deaf and Blind in Jackson will participate.
Activities will also include balloon art, a casting class, gospel and country entertainers, face painting and clothesline art.
In the coming year, Hazelwood will coordinate 29 fishing rodeos around the state.
