MWBA Tourney concludes this week

By By Mike Carson / bowling columnist
June 10, 2003
The 43rd Annual MWBA State Tournament will conclude this weekend with its seventh and final week of competition. As I have stated several times before, it has been an excellent tournament and our ladies are to be highly commended for the job they have done.
Remember, you can get the top ten standings in each category online at www.bowling100.com each week. Please note that since we are not the official record keepers for this tournament we must wait for the current standings to be given to us before they are posted. This typically occurs on Friday each week so please be patient.
A few reminders about upcoming events for you . . . the State Games of Mississippi will see the bowling competition take place the 28th and 29th of this month. Entry forms are available at Dixie Bowl and all local bowlers are encouraged to take part.
All bowling is scratch within six different average divisions. First, second and third place medals will be awarded in all divisions for both men and women. Pick up your entry forms and turn them in to Shayne or Lisa Barfield as soon as possible.
Also coming up is the Stan's Classic Tournaments 8-game Sweeper on July 13 followed by the second annual Doubles Tournament each weekend beginning Aug. 1 and ending Monday, Sept. 1.
This year's tournament features a $4000 guaranteed top prize. You may bowl with up to three partners each shift. Complete entry forms and information can be found at Dixie Bowl.
The 39th MWBA Workshop is slated to be held Saturday, Aug. 9 at Battlefield Inn in Vicksburg, followed by Singles Tournament at Red Carpet Lanes. You must attend the workshop to be eligible to compete in the tournament. Pick up your entry forms at Dixie Bowl.
Summer league action continues with scores heating up a bit. Mike Cothern picked up where he left off in the Fall/Winter season by chalking up a nice 729 series along with a 278 game.
One bowler is still needed to fill a vacancy on a team on Tuesday night. If you are interested, or know someone who is, contact Dixie Bowl.
Finally, it is with a heavy heart that I ask for your thoughts and prayers for my family, especially my sister and brother-in-law Carol and Frank Long, following the loss late last week of their daughter after a nearly 18-year battle with kidney disease and more recently, cancer.
At the age of 27, we lost her far too early but will always be grateful for the opportunity to experience her love and the joy she brought us. No tougher soldier has ever existed. She was our trooper, our fighter and our shining star. Jennifer Lynn Long. . . Feb. 5 1976-June 6, 2003. Her light will shine within us forever.
