JorD'an Nichole Orr, a senior at Clarkdale High School, was named to the National Honor Society for academics. She is vice-president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
She also was named Who's Who Among American High School Students for 2000-2003; she was on the Fast-Pitch All-Star Softball Team; and she was All-State and All-District for fast and slow pitch softball.
Orr was the 2002 homecoming queen and a high honors graduate. She received a softball scholarship to Meridian Community College, where she plans to pursue a degree in physical/occupational therapy.
Orr is the daughter of Cris Orr.
Emily Gay Snowden has been awarded a presidential scholarship to George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University.
In August, She will begin studies in the seminary's three-year program, leading to a master of divinity degree.
Snowden received a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, during commencement exercises at William Carey College in Hattiesburg on May 17. A 1999 graduate of Meridian High School, Snowden earned a double major in religion and history and a minor in music.
Snowden is the daughter of state Rep. Greg Snowden and Renee Snowden of Meridian.
DURHAM, N.C. TIP, the Duke University Talent Identification Program, is sponsoring a series of recognition ceremonies to honor some of the most talented seventh-graders in the United States.
This year, more than 20,100 students were invited to attend State Recognition Ceremonies.
Students who participated from the Meridian area are: William McBride and Ciara Smith, of Patrician Academy in Butler, Ala.; Helen Presley, Christopher Smith and Nicholas Smith, all of Enterprise Middle School; Ashlee Bennett and Logan Williams of Quitman High School; Heather Ahmie of Carver Middle School; Justin Sollie of Clarkdale Attendance Center; Robert Follett, Patrick Futrell and Emmie Johnson, all of Lamar Middle School; Ashley Betts, Gregory Maranto, April Massingill, Thomas Stephenson, Will Watts and Christopher Wilson, all of Magnolia Middle School; Kyle Gibson of Northeast Middle School; Christopher Williams of St. Patrick Catholic School; and Carl Dowden, Kellye Reeves and Jiten Gosai, all of Newton County Middle School.
Sandra Foster of Meridian attained all As during the second semester of the 2002-2003 academic session at Blue Mountain College.
She was named president's scholar for the second semester. To be eligible for the president's list, a student must maintain a perfect 4.0 grade point average on a minimum of 12 hours of credit.
