The Multi-County Community Service Agency will welcome Derrick Span, national president of the Community Action Partnership, to Meridian next week.
The agency holds a banquet each May in recognition of Community Action Month. This year's banquet will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Frank Cochran Center, 7125 Carousel Drive.
The banquet also is an opportunity to honor the agency's outstanding staff members, clients, board members and volunteers, according to Callie Cole, executive director.
This year Span will be the guest speaker for the banquet. The Community Action Partnership based in Washington D.C., is the national association that represents 1,000 community action agencies throughout the nation.
Span became president of the partnership in June 2002. He is a former executive director of the Center for Community Building in Harrisburg, Pa.; and former president and chief executive officer of the Urban League both in Harrisburg and Broome County, N.Y.
Span earned a master of divinity degree in theology and philosophy from the Inter-denomination Theological Center, a master of arts degree in social science and human development from Binghamton University and a bachelor of science degree in sociology from the University of Louisville.
