Most areas of county schools
not air conditioned this summer

The Lauderdale County School Board decided Thursday that it will not change the energy conservation plan introduced by the Viron Company.
Under the policy, most areas of county schools will not be air-conditioned in the summer. Viron, a Meridian-based company, is working with Lauderdale County to conserve and lower energy costs.
The policy includes libraries and computer labs. The only exceptions are those sections of buildings where summer school classes will be held.
In a specially-called meeting, the Lauderdale County School Board also took the following actions:
Several changes were approved to the student handbook. They include, the addition of eighth grade averages in determining class ranking. Currently ranking averages begin in the ninth grade.
Also, a student may not use more than three credits in the combination of band, physical education or chorus toward the required credits for graduation. A bid to replace the lights at West Lauderdale's football field by Woodall Electric was accepted.
