Posey takes over reins at Newton

Newton High School has named Neshoba Central assistant Pepper Posey to be the school's new football coach.
Posey, who prepped at Neshoba Central and played under Chuck Friend, also has an assistant coaching stint at Choctaw Central.
Posey accepted the job late Tuesday afternoon, Newton principal Wayne McDill said. Posey was then put before a special-called meeting of the Newton Municipal School District where he was uninimously accepted.
Posey, 33, replaces Brad Peterson who left to take a similar position at Forest. Peterson posted a 26-19 record over a four-year stretch.
After years of being an assistant, the Newton offer was just too good to pass up.
Posey said after talking with Peterson, he felt the situation was right.
Posey said he would meet with coaches today to work out the rest of the spring and decide about the school's spring football game.
