By Staff
May 1, 2003
To apply for disaster assistance from the Federal
Emergency Management Agency, call (800) 621-FEMA with information about your income, insurance, damage and housing needs. Write down your application number once it is assigned.
In addition, low-interest loans are available from the U.S. Small Business Administration's Disaster Assistance Program to renters, homeowners, business owners and non-profit organizations with losses due to April 6-14 storms:
Homeowners can borrow up to $200,000 for real estate repairs.
Renters and homeowners can borrow up to $40,000 for replacement of personal property.
Businesses may apply for up to $1.5 million for losses not fully covered by insurance.
The deadline to apply for physical damage assistance is June 23.
Working capital assistance is also available for
businesses, even if the property received no physical damage, through the SBA's Economic Injury Disaster Loan program. The deadline to apply for economic injury
assistance is Jan. 26, 2004.
