Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department reported that an inmate was found dead in his cell at the East Mississippi Correction Facility in Lost Gap about 4:30 a.m. today.
Calhoun said efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and his death appeared to be from natural causes. However, an autopsy will be performed.
Calhoun would not release the name or age of the deceased inmate because he was not sure if the family had been notified.
