Recruiting for next season's Meridian Community College soccer team came to a conclusion with the signing of West Lauderdale defenseman Tyler Skelton on Monday at the Damon Fitness Center.
Skelton is the last signee for next fall's freshman class for MCC said head coach Alex George.
Skelton is a familiar face for George. He coached Skelton for four years while he was the head coach at West Lauderdale. George replaced Steve Clements as the MCC head soccer coach last spring.
This past winter, Skelton served as team captain for the Knights in help leading Bud Brown's club to the Class 1A-3A State final. It marked the fourth straight year West Lauderdale had advanced to the championship match. They won the state title in 2000, Skelton's freshman season.
The son of Rubye Skelton, Tyler will seek a degree in business. This past season, Skelton played sweeper for the Knights leading the team to an 19-5-1 record.
He was named to the Division 5-3A team and was tabbed first-team All-State this year. The Knights were state runners-up in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
Skelton said he feels he will be playing somewhere on the defensive end.
Skelton joins local signees Justin Culpepper and David Prewitt in MCC freshman class. Culpepper and Prewitt played for Clarkdale which is West's heated rival in boys soccer.
